Assignment #3 Ghosts!

In Hamlet, the opening scene relates the superstitious beliefs of the watchmen concerning ghosts. They think the ghost disappears before the sun rises because he is not allowed to leave his grave during the day. They think he will not speak unless first spoken to. They believe his appearance bodes some ill fortune about to come down upon Denmark.

Do a little research about ghosts and the superstitions surrounding them. See if you can discover any superstitions concerning ghosts prevalent during the English Renaissance, when Shakespeare was writing his plays. What are some superstitions concerning ghosts today? Does your family have any particular sayings, superstitions, or legends about ghosts? What are some of the places considered to be haunted today? Why are some people so fascinated with ghosts?
